The quality of Madonna’s vocal performance was so strong that recorded vocals dominated, despite M’s constant obnoxious banter and scripted shenanigans, the uncomfortable heat inside the MET, and a handful of strong songs. "Hey Mr. DJ," were you playing Madonna tracks off your laptop for most of the show?

It played out like a very modern broadway show with incredible dancers, staging, and a DJ filling in for an orchestra or live band, all in all. Some high points included the brilliant performance of “Batuka” with the all female percussionists (and live?), top-notch choreography, and the magical vibe and intensity of NYC’s elaborate underground after hours parties of the 1990s in some of M’s clubby numbers like “God Control.” Still, I found myself wondering why I was there and when it would be over.
